The Kas di Barber as a Community Center is to empower and help the citizens of Barber and neighborhoods in their growing in a broadest sense of the word.

The initiative of Kas di Barber came from Mr. William Melfort that started in 2016 to start a Community Center for his people of Banda Bou.

To realize this the idea of Mr. William chose the Foundation EDOVI to work out this project.

In september 2016 his dream came true when the Government of Curacao put the house situated at Barber 88 at our deposition for the period as mentioned in our rental agreement.

Vision and Mission EDOVI.

In 2004 the Foundation Education Audio Visual (EDOVI) is founded.The goal of EDOVI is to Empower the citizens of Curaçao. With all your visual educational material to avoid dropouts.Till 2015 there was no not so many activities organized. In 2016 After the agreement with the government for renting the house at Barber 88, we jumpstarted the foundation.

The building was in a very bad situation. With the help of families and friends we started with the maintenance of the building and made it useful for our goals. Meanwhile during three years until  2019, we joined forces with the Carnival Foundation Banda Bou, and during that time they also used the building for their planning and operations.

Pandemic

During the COVID period of 2019 till 2021 there was no use to plan any activity Kas di Barber building. After COVID, the board of EDOVI, the same as everybody around the world, we saw the importance of having access to the digital world. The results of our survey proved that a lot of people of Banda Bou have no access to a computer or the Internet. 

Activities at Kas di Barber

October 21st 2021 was the official opening of Kas di Barber, together with Dara Wisdom Foundation, with the project named Assistance to the Digital World. We started counting 22 volunteers.

Citizens in the neighborhood of Barber receive assistance for free to learn about the digital world. Today this project is still running. Thanks to all our volunteers and our sponsors.The people of Barber can make appointments for all kind of online. If you need to make an appointment to renew your ID card, driving license, car inspection, appointment with your medical doctor etc. Nowadays, you need to have an Internet connection and a computer to make all those appointments. Besides assistance to the online services we also give after school computer courses to minors from 10 to 16 years and senior citizens of Curaçao.

Getting funds

To obtain funds, we do fundraising activities such as selling BBQ at the time of carnival to get funds. On April the 27th 2022 we organized a local fair.

We also receive donations from CURADOET Foundation to repair the roof and to paint the building.

Projects

In October 2022 EDOV started with the first project for the minors. Our group of interest is the disadvantaged young children of Banda Abou. This project contains computer lessons consisting of block based programming for children. At the end of the course the children will be transported by our volunteers to their homes.

In  2023, we continued with the project for the minors. We also included this time Art workshop such as music, painting, handcraft and the creation of local sweetness. Those projects were realized thanks to the financial support of the Foundation KAIM.
